Peqini General Info

 
Peqini lies in the central part of Albania. It is an ancient Illyrian settlement, in the right side of the lower Shkumbini. Archaeological findings attest to the fact that he existed simultaneously with the ancient cities of our country. The geographical position, gives to it such an opportunity, to be located along the old road Kandavisë and then Egnatia road, known as Klaudiana.
From Peqin all the foreign visitors and its province is mentioned for his generous and hospitable people for beautiful homes and gardens, hills coverde with the green olive-trees,  wide and fertile field, which crosses the river Shkumbin from the  top to the end. In Peqin is projected to cross the street, eight Corridor, which will bring to the area a lot economic benefits.
Peqin is a district  of central Albania.
 
 
Peqin generally is surrounded by a green area with mild relief field, being used by residents to walk to the outdoor holiday. In these areas are also set different bars and restaurants offering local cuisine and are very suitable places for rest and to spend free time with fun.

History, culture, tourism.
The city dates back about 2000 years ago, and is mentioned as Illyrian fortress, strengthened by the idea that these traces of ancient Egnatia Road. Certify the origin of the numerous archaeological findings in the Karine,  Pajovë as axes, works on bone, decorative items etc., in ancient tombs. Traces of civilization go through all of Egnatia road, and stop at the now-defunct city of Klaudiana, which was built as a station for fortifying the cruise. Later on, the city's name became Biklenet (documents are found in the archives of the years of 1430), and then Peklin until today. which came called Peqin. For the first time Peqin found evidence in the writings of Elvia Çelebi, a Turkish historian, in the period when the old Illyrian fortress was transformed into a Turkish bastion. During the Middle Ages, to the castle was added a mosque and the clock tower, which is a similar style ottoman in other cities of Albania. Edith Durham wrote for Peqin later, during its journey through Albania. The Albania’s lover, recognized the Albanians struck in this small town's bungalow with beautiful gardens full of flowers, with people who loved the work, craft stores, with the castle, the clock tower and the old mosque.
 
The ethnography and folklore
The characteristics of Peqin are similar to that of Elbasan. Music, clothes, habits and customs, cuisine and folk traditions, are peculiar as in the rest of central Albania.
Peqini is a city of art and quite lovers. He has given to the country many prominent figures in the republic level, such as actress Behije Cela, musicians Rifat Teqja, Ferdinand Deda etc.
Tourism is not so developed in this city but Peqini has very good resources to develop cultural and historical tourism, and even the tourism of nature, being surrounded by very beautiful hills filled with olive trees, mainly pine, being crossed by a river that creates quite relaxing oasis.
You can visit in Peqin, the Clock Tower and Mosque, the architectural works of the XV century, and the castle, built on antique ruins, which was during this period. You can also visit the bridge and the road Egnatia, as evidence of ancient Illyrian civilization.
 
Special  facts
The Treasure of Vrapi. Placed in the Metropolitan Museum in New York,  it,contains about 6 kg 2 kg gold and silver. It is found by a villager who worked the land in the area of Peqin and ignoring the value, he sold it hand by hand in Trieste and Constantinople. Treasury contains Byzantine and Norman 41 containers, gold and silver bullion, silver and gold cup. it is Believed to have been a trophy of war.
Reportedly, the oldest bridge in Albania is in Peqin, and was a bridge that existed in ancient times, was rebuilt about five centuries ago and still retains traces until today. This bridge is named Egnatia
